Tapy Support

Tapy is a keyboard for iPhone that you can talk to. Speak in your own language, and clean text goes into the app you’re using, in your language or in the one you want to send. It also types like a normal keyboard.

Contact

Tell us your iPhone model, your iOS version and your Tapy version (in the Tapy app: Settings › About Tapy), and what you did just before the problem.

Set up Tapy

  1. Open the Tapy app and tap Get started. The setup guide takes you through each step. To see it again, go to Settings › Show the setup guide again.
  2. Pick the languages you speak, and the ones you translate into.
  3. Add the keyboard. Tap Open Settings, then tap Keyboards, turn on Tapy, turn on Allow Full Access, and tap Allow. You can also go to Settings › General › Keyboard › Keyboards › Add New Keyboard › Tapy.
  4. Allow the microphone. Tapy shows where your voice goes. Tap Agree and turn on the mic, then allow it when iOS asks.
  5. Try it right in the app: tap the mic on the Tapy keyboard and say anything.
  6. In any app, touch and hold 🌐 and choose Tapy.

Why Full Access?

iOS asks you to allow Full Access for keyboards that need to go beyond typing. Tapy needs it to send your voice to the Tapy app, to send your edits and copied messages to Gemini, and for key clicks and haptics.

Without Full Access, Tapy still types, with Vietnamese Telex, emoji and a number pad, and nothing leaves your iPhone. Tapy never records your keystrokes. The privacy policy lists what Tapy sends when you use a voice or AI feature.

Using Tapy

Talk
Hold the mic and speak, then let go. Or tap the mic once, speak, and tap it again when you’re done.
Modes
The keyboard starts in Verbatim, which keeps every word you say. Tap the mode button to switch to Translate, which writes what you mean in your target language. Pick up to three targets on the keyboard; a Meaning line shows the result in your own language. In the app’s Modes tab, add Clean, which removes filler words and slips, or a mode of your own, and put them in order.
Copied messages
Copy a message and tap Paste. In Translate mode, Tapy translates it for you first. Then say your answer, or what to do with the message, and Tapy writes it in the sender’s language.
Hold space to edit
On the voice keyboard, hold the space bar, say the change (“more polite”, “make it 8 instead of 7”) and let go. The text you just inserted, or the text you selected, is rewritten. Undo brings the old version back, Redo the new one.
Quick edits
After you dictate, or when you select text, buttons such as Shorter, More polite and Fix spelling rewrite the text in one tap. Change them, or add your own, in the app under Modes.
Your words
Put names, brands and jargon in the Dictionary tab, and give each mode your own instructions under Modes.
Typing
ABC opens the letter keys. When Vietnamese is one of your languages, the VI/EN key turns Vietnamese Telex on and off; Telex stays off in email and web address fields. Fields that take only digits open a number pad. ⌄ and ⌃ switch between the full keyboard and a slim strip. To have a letter appear as soon as your finger touches it, turn on Settings › Typing › Type on touch down.
Long dictations
Each dictation can run up to 10 minutes. At 10 minutes, Tapy stops and writes what you said.

Free minutes and plans

  • Only the time the mic is recording counts. Typing is always free.

Questions

Why does Tapy open when I tap the mic?

Keyboards on iPhone can’t use the microphone. The first time you tap the mic, the Tapy app opens and starts listening, so keep talking. Tap ‹ at the top left to go back to your app.

The mic then stays ready: 5 minutes after your last dictation, or 15 or 60 minutes, as set in Settings › Keep the microphone ready for. While it’s ready, a tap on the keyboard’s mic is enough.

Why is the orange dot on? How do I turn the mic off?

The orange dot shows that Tapy’s microphone is on. Tapy sends nothing until you dictate.

To turn it off, use the button on the Live Activity (on the Lock Screen or in the Dynamic Island), or tap Turn off the mic in the Tapy app. It also turns off by itself at the end of the time you chose, and when a call takes the microphone.

Why can’t I use Tapy in password or phone number fields?

iOS always uses its own keyboard there. Some apps also choose not to allow other keyboards; iOS then switches to its keyboard too.

Does Tapy work without the internet?

Typing does. Voice, translation and edits need a connection. If the connection drops while you dictate, Tapy keeps the recording so you can try again.

Which languages can I speak?

Over 100. Pick every language you use in Settings › Languages you speak. You can mix them in one sentence.

Can two people each use their own language?

Yes. If you both use Tapy, each of you picks the other’s language in Translate. You speak yours and they read theirs; they answer in theirs and you read yours. The Meaning line shows each of you what you sent.

Which AI does Tapy use?

Google’s Gemini. By default Tapy uses Gemini 3.1 Flash-Lite, which writes right away. Turn on Settings › Advanced › Think before writing and it uses Google’s latest Gemini Flash, which thinks for a moment first: a little slower, better with hard sentences and translations.

What do these messages mean?
  • “No connection. The recording is saved.” Check the connection and try again.
  • “The microphone stopped. Tap the mic to open Tapy again.” A call, Siri or another app took the microphone.
  • “If the mic does nothing, turn on Allow Full Access for Tapy.” See Why Full Access?
  • “This model is not available. Pick another in Settings.”
  • “Your 60 free minutes are used up.” Typing still works.
What does Tapy keep on my iPhone?

Your dictations and their recordings, for one hour, in the History tab. Statistics keep only numbers. Delete everything with Settings › Delete all history.

How do I remove Tapy?

Remove the keyboard in Settings › General › Keyboard › Keyboards › Edit, then delete the app. Deleting the app removes its history, statistics and settings from your iPhone.

If you added your own key in Settings › Advanced, remove it there first: iOS can keep it after the app is deleted.
